The photographs and contributors that bring the species collection into focus.

Angraecum.org values the photographers, illustrators, researchers, and institutions whose visual work helps people understand orchids. Photographs and illustrations can document plant features, explain research, and show the environments in which orchids grow. This page sets out our standards for image attribution, permissions, and responsible use.

Our image-credit standard is to identify the creator and the basis for publication as clearly as possible. Credits should appear beside the image, in its caption, or in an accessible image-specific credit record. Where several images appear together, the credit information should make clear which attribution applies to each image.

Depending on the material and its terms, a credit record should include:

  • The photographer, illustrator, or other credited creator.
  • The image title or a description that identifies the work.
  • The original source or collection, with a link where available.
  • The copyright holder or attribution party, where specified.
  • The applicable license and version, or a statement that permission was obtained.
  • Relevant information about changes, such as cropping or annotation.

A source website and an image’s creator may be different. An image appearing in a botanical database, publication, or online collection must be assessed using its own credit and rights information. A general link to the hosting organization does not replace the attribution or permission required for the particular image.

For Creative Commons material, we follow the applicable license rather than assuming that every openly available image has the same terms. For example, CC BY 4.0 requires appropriate credit, a license link, and an indication of changes. Other licenses may include additional conditions concerning commercial use, adaptations, or sharing adapted material. Creative Commons

Where we identify material as public domain, our standards require recording the source and the basis for that description. Historical illustrations should retain useful details such as the artist, publication, date, and plate number when available. Any uncertainty about the status or provenance of an image should be resolved before publication or made clear where appropriate.

Readers wishing to reuse an image should consult its specific credit, license, and source record. A third-party image may have different terms from text or other material on Angraecum.org. This page does not replace an image’s license or limit uses allowed by applicable law. For material requiring additional permission, contact the relevant rights holder.

We welcome photographs that can improve species profiles, identification guides, and educational articles. Contributors should provide the proposed plant identification, their preferred credit, and the terms under which publication is authorized. Please explain whether you created the image or are authorized to offer it. We will clarify intended uses and attribution before accepting material for publication.

Botanical captions should reflect the available identification evidence. A photograph offered under a species name may require further checking, and uncertain identifications should be labeled accordingly. Where relevant, captions should distinguish plants photographed in cultivation from plants recorded in their natural habitat.

Editing must be compatible with the image’s permission or license and preserve features relevant to its educational purpose. Illustrations, reconstructions, and AI-generated visuals must be identified appropriately. AI-generated imagery cannot serve as evidence of a species’ appearance or diagnostic features.

If you believe an image is misidentified, incorrectly credited, or used without appropriate authorization, please contact us through our Contact page. Include the affected URL, identify the image, explain your connection to the work or the suspected error, and provide supporting details. We may correct the credit, replace the image, or temporarily remove it while the concern is reviewed.

Image-related factual corrections are handled under our Corrections Policy. We appreciate contributions and careful scrutiny that help maintain accurate, respectful visual documentation of Angraecum orchids.
